(Washington DC) As part of an ongoing reconstruction project the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will shift the traffic pattern on Minnesota Avenue NE between Ames Street NE and Benning Road NE beginning Tuesday, July 26, at 9:30 am

Southbound traffic will move to the center of the roadway and northbound traffic will be shifted to the east curb lane. The work is expected to last approximately 8 weeks, weather permitting.

The lane shifts will allow for safe installation of a new roadway between A Street SE to 300 feet south of Benning Road NE. The construction activity will cause moderate-to-heavy delays.

Traffic controls will be in place to warn drivers and protect workers and pedestrians. Motorists are advised to be alert of traffic changes and construction personnel while travelling through this area.

Motorists are advised that the northbound lane of Minnesota Avenue will shift to allow for safe installation of a new roadway between A Street SE and 300 feet south of Benning Road NE.

Traffic controls will be in place to warn drivers and protect workers and pedestrians. Motorists are advised to be alert of traffic changes and construction personnel while travelling through this area.

Temporary Lane Shift on Minnesota Avenue Beginning July 26, 2016

(Washington DC) As part of an ongoing reconstruction project on Minnesota Avenue SE, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will shift the traffic pattern on Minnesota Avenue, NE between Ames Street, NE and Benning Road, NE, southbound traffic will be moved to the center and northbound traffic will be directed to move along the east curb lane beginning July 26, 2016.  This phase of work is expected to last approximately 8 weeks; weather permitting.   

Motorists are being advised using Variable Message Board that the southbound lane of Minnesota Avenue is shifting during this operation to allow for the safe installation of a new roadway between A Street SE and 300 feet south of Benning Road NE, as part of the ongoing reconstruction of Minnesota Avenue S.E.

Traffic controls will be in place to warn drivers and protect workers and pedestrians. Motorists are advised to be alert to all traffic changes and construction personnel while travelling through this area.

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will implement street closures and detours on Ames Street between Minnesota and East Capitol, starting Monday, March 7, 2016, at 9:30 am, weather permitting. The closure is needed for the safe installation of the new roadway on Minnesota Avenue from A Street to south of Benning Road, NE. 

The closures, which will last for 3-to-4 weeks, is part of the ongoing reconstruction of the Minnesota Avenue project. 

Westbound Ames Street will be closed between Minnesota Avenue, NE, and East Capitol Street, eliminating access to Minnesota Avenue from inbound East Capitol Street, NE and points east. 

There will be a detour to direct westbound Ames Street to Minnesota Avenue, NE. Access to inbound/westbound East Capitol Street via the ramp from Ridge Road and northbound Minnesota Avenue remains open.

The eastbound Ames Street ramp to East Capitol Street will remain fully closed between Minnesota Avenue, NE and East Capitol Street.

DETOUR:

Vehicles traveling on westbound Ames Street will make a right onto northbound Anacostia Road, travel one block and turn left to westbound Blaine Street, NE, and another quick left onto inbound/southbound Minnesota Avenue, NE.

Closure of Ames St., NE between Minnesota Ave., NE and East Capitol St.
To Occur March 7, 2016 as Part of the Minnesota Ave Phase I Project

(Washington DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) beginning Monday, March 7, 2016, will be implementing a street closure and associated detour as part of the ongoing reconstruction of Minnesota Avenue Phase 1. The closure and detour is being done to allow for the safe installation of the new roadway on Minnesota Ave. from A Street to 300 feet south of Benning Road, NE. This closure will be in place for 3- 4 weeks; barring any weather conditions that may slow this phase of the project down.

CLOSURE:

Westbound Ames St. will be closed between Minnesota Ave., NE and East Capitol St., thereby eliminating access to Minnesota Ave., NE from westbound/inbound East Capitol St., NE and points east. The eastbound Ames St. ramp to East Capitol St. inbound/westbound will remain closed resulting in the full closure of Ames St., NE between Minnesota Ave., NE and East Capitol St. A detour to direct westbound Ames St. to Minnesota Ave., NE will be implemented and is described in detail below. Access to inbound/westbound East Capitol St. via the ramp from Ridge Rd. and northbound Minnesota Ave. remains open.

DETOUR:

Minnesota Avenue Revitalization Phase 1 from A St., SE
to 300 ft. south of Benning Rd., NE

PROJECT UPDATE

Saturday, February 13 – Friday, February 19, 2016

(Work is NOT scheduled for Saturday, February 13, 2016 but is scheduled for President’s Day – Monday, February 15, 2016)

All work subject to change (weather permitting).

> Shift northbound Minnesota Ave traffic to the roadway center between A St. & Ridge Rd.

> Continue stormdrain manhole, pipe and inlet installations between Ridge Rd. & Clay Pl.

> Continue streetlight/traffic signal manhole/conduit installation b/t Ridge Rd. & Blaine St. 

> Continue new water service installations between E. Capitol St. & Benning Rd.

> Prepare for final watermain tie-ins between Clay Pl. & Benning Rd.

> Perform final watermain and water service tie-ins at various locations project wide.

> This work will water service disruptions, including day and/or night shutdowns. Advance door-to-door notifications will be provided by DC Water when testing is completed and schedules finalized.

> Continue roadway reconstruction between E. Capitol St. Bridge & Blaine St.
