Minnesota Avenue Revitalization Phase 1
Minnesota Avenue from A Street, SE to 300 feet south of Benning Road, NE

PROJECT UPDATE

Saturday, September 24 – Friday, September 30, 2016
(Work is scheduled for Saturday, September 24, 2016)

All work subject to change (weather permitting).

  • Continue Phase 3 (of 3) west-side/SB roadway reconstruction b/t Dix St. & A St. including new roadway sections, underdrains, curb/gutter, LID footers, driveway aprons, wheelchair ramps, bus pads and utility work including stormdrain inlets/pipe and streetlight/traffic signal conduits;
    • The SB bus stop at Minn. Ave. & Ames St. will be closed indefinitely startingMonday, September 26th.   Riders are asked to use the new bus stop in front of the Senior Center at Blaine St. starting Monday, September 26th as an alternate.
    • The SB bus stop @ Clay Pl. will remain closed for approx. 1-2 more weeks.  Riders are asked to use the stop south of Benning Rd. (sheltered) as an alternate.
  • Pepco has completed its work along the project corridor.  All new poles have been installed and power/hardware transferred from old to new poles.  The next phase of utility relocations will begin during this period and involves the transfer of RCN Cable overhead lines from the old to new poles.  This work is expected to take approximately 2 weeks and will be performed during evening and or overnight hours.  Once all sub-utility overhead lines are transferred, Pepco will return to remove the old poles.

Minnesota Avenue Revitalization Phase 1

PROJECT UPDATE

Saturday, September 17 – Friday, September 23, 2016
(Work is scheduled for Saturday, September 17, 2016)

All work subject to change (weather permitting).

  • Extend the Phase 3 (of 3) workzone for west-side / SBroadway reconstruction from the Senior Center to the project limit @ A St., SE and begin existing roadway demolition;
    • Existing southbound traffic will shift to the center lanes w/in the above limit.
    • Existing northbound traffic will remain in the east curb lane and an additional thru lane will be provided b/t A St. & Ridge Rd.
  • Continue Phase 3 (of 3) west-side /SB roadway reconstruction b/t the Senior Center & Benning Rd. including curb/gutter, LID footers, driveway aprons, wheelchair ramps and utility work including stormdrain inlets and streetlight / traffic signal foundations; 
    • The SB bus stop @ Clay Pl. will be temporarily closed for approx. 1 week starting Mon., Sept. 19th.  Riders are asked to use the stop south of Benning Rd. (sheltered) as an alternate.  On Wed., Sept. 21st the bus stop at Blaine St. will be reopened and can be used as an alternate as well (no shelter).
  • Complete Phase 1 (of 3) center lanes roadway reconstruction (except final surface asphalt) b/t the Senior Center & A St., SE;
    • During the work above the intersections @ Ridge Rd. & Ames St., will be reconstructed in halves so all thru traffic can be maintained.
  • Pepco to perform underground conduit transfers @ A St., SE.  This work will be performed during a nighttime power shutdown, advance notifications for which will be provided by Pepco.  Misc. OH line work at various locations is also expected.

  • Continue Phase 3 (of 3) west-side/southbound roadway reconstruction b/t the Senior Center & Benning Rd. including curb & gutter, driveway aprons, wheelchair ramps, and utility work including stormdrain inlets & pipe and electrical mains and services to new streetlights and traffic signals;
  • Continue Phase 1 (of 3) center lanes roadway reconstruction b/t the Senior Center & A St. including the installation of new stormdrain pipe and electrical mains and services to new streetlights and traffic signals
    • During the above work:
      • The intersections of Ames St, Blaine St & Clay Pl (w. side of Minn Ave) will be demolished and reconstructed in halves so 1-way traffic can be maintained.  Detours will be posted and motorists and pedestrians are advised to use caution when approaching these locations.
  • Pepco to continue underground conduit installations and associated overhead line work to transfer power from the old to new utility poles b/t A St & Clay Pl at the following locations: in front of Apex Pharmacy & Bank of America, @ the Minn. Ave. & Blaine St. intersection and @ Minn. Ave & A St.  This work will be performed during nighttime power shutdowns, advance notifications for which will be provided by Pepco.
