Minnesota Avenue Revitalization Phase 1
from A St., SE to 300 ft. south of Benning Rd., NE

PROJECT UPDATE

Saturday, October 29 – Friday, November 4, 2016
(Work is NOT scheduled for Saturday, October 29, 2016)

All work subject to change (weather permitting).

  • Continue Phase 3 (of 3) west-side/SB new roadway reconstruction b/t Blaine St. & A St. including underdrain pipe, LID footers, curb/gutter, driveway aprons, wheelchair ramps, and utility work including stormdrain inlets and pipe and streetlight/traffic signal conduit and foundations;
  • Continue construction of realigned E. Cap. St. S. Serv. Rd. (Ridge Rd. extension);
  • Begin sidewalk replacement/reconstruction along the west side of Minn. Ave. starting at the Benning Rd. end of the project corridor.
    • During sidewalk construction, pedestrians will be diverted to temporary protected walkways in the new roadway (on the same side of the street).
    • The SB bus stop at Blaine St. will be moved from in front of the Allen House Senior Center to in front of Domino’s Pizza toward the end of the week.
  • Pepco has completed its new pole work along the project corridor. All new poles have been installed and power/hardware transferred from old to new poles. The next phase of utility relocations is ongoing and involves the transfer of RCN Cable overhead (OH) lines from the old to new poles and will be performed during evening and or overnight hours. Once all sub-utility OH lines are transferred, Pepco will return to remove the old poles.

  • Continue Phase 3 (of 3) west-side/SB roadway reconstruction b/t Blaine St. & A St. including new roadway construction, underdrain pipe, LID footers, curb/gutter, driveway aprons, wheelchair ramps, bus pads and utility work including streetlight/traffic signal conduit and foundations;
  • Continue construction of realigned E. Capitol St. South Serv. Rd. (west of Minn. Ave.);
  • Begin sidewalk replacement/reconstruction along the west side of Minn. Ave. starting at the Benning Rd. end of the project corridor.
    • The west-side sidewalk will continue to be closed b/t Ridge Rd. & Ames St. until the middle to end of this week. Pedestrians using this side will be directed to cross to the east side of Minn. Ave. @ Ridge Rd. & Ames St.
    • The SB bus stop at Ames St. will reopen near the end of this week. The SB bus stop at Blaine St. in front of the Allen House Senior Center will be relocated to in front of Domino’s Pizza in approximately 1-2 weeks.
      **Loitering on Allen House property is prohibited while waiting for the bus.

  • Continue Phase 3 (of 3) west-side/SB roadway reconstruction b/t Blaine St & A St. including new roadway construction, underdrain pipe, LID footers, curb/gutter, driveway aprons, wheelchair ramps, bus pads and utility work including stormdrain manholes/inlets/pipe and streetlight/traffic signal manholes/conduit/foundations;
    • The west-side sidewalk will be closed b/t Ridge Rd. & Ames St. starting this week.  Pedestrians using this side will be directed to cross to the east side of Minn. Ave. @ Ridge Rd. & Ames St., and the sidewalk on the north/east side of Ridge Rd. and continuing across the bridge to Ames St will be reopened.
    • The SB bus stop at Minn. Ave. & Ames St. remains closed and will reopen in approximately 1 week.  Riders are asked to use the new bus stop in front of the Allen House Senior Center at Blaine St. or at A St as alternates.

    • The SB bus stop at Minn. Ave. & Ames St. will be closed indefinitely startingMonday, September 26. Riders are asked to use the new bus stop in front of the Senior Center at Blaine St. or at A St as alternates.
    • The SB bus stop @ Clay Pl. will remain closed for approx. 1 more week. Riders are asked to use the stop south of Benning Rd. (sheltered) as an alternate.
  • Pepco has completed its work along the project corridor. All new poles have been installed and power/hardware transferred from old to new poles. The next phase of utility relocations will begin during this period and involves the transfer of RCN Cable overhead lines from the old to new poles. This work is expected to take approximately 2 weeks and will be performed during evening and or overnight hours. Once all sub-utility overhead lines are transferred, Pepco will return to remove the old poles.
